The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Last night I watched The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford on DVD. It was one of the most slow-moving Westerns I’d ever seen & quite laconic too, but ultimately an interesting historical drama, done in quasi-documentary style with a voice-over narration like a Ken Burns special. Brad Pitt seemed quite subdued as Jesse James, and I had some trouble keeping the minor characters’ names straight, but still I thought the movie was worth watching.

According to Wikipedia entries on Jesse James and Robert Ford, the movie, based on this book with the same title, stayed quite close to the historical record; plus it was interesting to learn about the “bushwhackers” and how the outlaw gang activity grew out of the Civil War.
